I was one of the participating students of the UCLA summer program from Taiwan in 2018. I just finished sharing my experiences about the UCLA program to potential applicants of the UCLA summer program 2022 for NTNU-Department of Education.
I am writing to express my appreciation as this program has had a profound impact on me as a high school teacher. In fact, I was so inspired to the degree that after I came back from 2018 UCLA summer program, I started designing a series of courses and leading my MUN (Model United Nations) students to further delve into issues regarding social justice and take action based on SDGs goals.
This January, taking the first sustainable development goal of the United Nations SDGs: “Ending Poverty” as a starting point, within the scope of old Taichung city where extreme poverty occurs, I have a course program in partnership with American Institute of Taiwan (AIT) and a local social enterprise in the hope that this will contribute to a better understanding for students on the importance of responsibility as a global citizen, elimination of poverty, inequality and human rights violation that threaten peace and sustainability.
This series of programs are held in a library called National Library of Public Information, accessed by anyone with a library card, and this program has been broadcast on AIT social media. On January 22, there will be a presentation for students to talk about their action plan based on their previous dialogues with stakeholders and daily wage laborers and homeless people.
But most important of all, I would like to say thank you with this letter. Because of you and what I have learned in the 2018 UCLA summer program, all these are made possible. Thank you!!!!
